Feeding Time at the Zoo
Nanchang Zoo moved about a year ago from its city centre location out to the suburbs. I never visited the old zoo as I'd heard too many bad things about it but this new zoo is not too bad. On the whole the animals seemed to have decent sized enclosures and a relatively natural environment (except for the big cats, hyenas, vultures and the golden eagles).
There didn't seem to be much in the way of a conservation/education angle to the zoo though and some of the visitors were behaving pretty badly, banging on the glass windows to try to get a reaction out of the some of the animals such as tigers and leopards or teasing other animals such as the wolves. There were very few zoo keepers around to put a stop to this. Visitors were able to feed some of the animals such as deer and camels, which was very popular with the kids.
