Day 1 and 2
Well, I've been in China for 5 days now. We made it to Jingdezhen on Thursday morning about 5 am following a 16 hour train ride from Shanghai. We were able to start playing with the clay on Friday. We're working with fine porcelain which is sticky and has no "tooth." It doesn't like to stand up very well compared to the stoneware I've been working with at home. The porcelain is pretty lazy clay. Yesterday they brought in a master thrower. He's amazing with the clay; he makes us all look like beginners. Did I mention that he's been doing this for the past 14 years?
The picture is an image of what I've been working on during the first 2 days here in the studio.
