Difference
On this picture you see our tug in the middle between the reefer 'Green Concordia' and the supply vessel 'Olympic Promoter'. The first one was already mentioned before, and has nothing to do with Oil Industry and Offshore. The last one is different; this vessel is an ultra modern so called PSV (platform supply vessel). Built in 2005 she can carry a lot of cargo to oil platforms. Check for yourself :
Deck space: 680 m2 / 1600 tonnes
Fuel oil: 980 m3
Fresh water: 1030 m3
Drill water: 1450 m3
Brine: 390 m3
Liquid mud: 980 m3
Dry bulk: 320 m3
On the contrary, she can not handle any anchors or tow objects. See the stern, she has a closed stern, no stern roller and also no winches on deck. That's why she is sometimes called a 'Straight Supplier' what means that this is the only trick she can do. I told you a couple of days ago that a tug needs to be sturdy and powerful, see the difference in design between the Retriever and the Promoter. By the way, the Retriever has more than twice as much power installed as the Promoter, which makes my day very good.
