A Year Through My Eyes

One tiny wrong turn....

Don't panic from the title! So this was my first full day in Singapore.....my only full day. I started the day off my oversleeping! Great start but the weather was telling me to stay under the duvet as it was chucking it down.

Eventually when all the extra sleeping was done I went out, having been underwhelmed by Little India I decided I'd give china town a whirl. I also figured I'd give the metro (tube) a go. It was so open and clean! The routes were obvious and the trains themselves were about a third wider than londons!

I jumped off a stop before china town and then walked a couple of blocks to china town......better than Little India! It was a assault on my senses walking through the food district where they had all the mysterious ingredients that go into Chinese cooking (some looked seriously dodgy) and all the market stalls were selling their jade pendants etc all filled with colour!

I then wondered down towards  the river, pretty simple. Walked through the business district which appears to be most of Singapore but this area by the river was full of busy people in suits popping out for 20mins fresh air over lunch time. I then figured so far so good with the old map reading so was heading back.....this was where well it wasnt really my map reading skills, more my ability to choose the right exit on the underpass.....this made me add a good couple of miles on to my journey and in 30degree heat I felt like id done a hard core workout by the time I reached my route again.  The wonky route did take me to raffles hotel, where no I didn't have a Singapore sling! I was tempted but feeling shattered and dehydrated I didn't really feel it my wisest move! I'll survive.......somehow with staying dry whilst in singapore!

So eventually I made it back to the hostel, and kinda keeled over on the giant bean bag and then ventured back into town to Orchard road to get some food with Marie my Swedish roommate. I even broke the bank by buying some shorts on orchard road! Two pairs for $30.....£15. Think I'll survive.

Anyway as I'm writing this I'm once again slumped on the giant bean bag with Marie half watching a film about a woman obsessed with spices......odd.

This blip is was taken outside the school of arts. The red signs are asking you to leave a secret message with the trees.....above the sign is a speaker so not sure how secret the massages left would actually be! It did intrigue me though, hence the blip.
