Kingsford-Smith Memorial Park, Katoomba, NSW
Sir Charles Kingsford Smith was an Australian pioneer aviator known as "Smithy". He made the first trans-Pacific flight from USA to Australia, and also the first flights between Australia and New Zealand and across Australian mainland.
He remains a national hero, with the airport at Sydney names Kingsford Smith International Airport and other memorials around the country. This one is in Katoomba and is a Park opened in 1940 after his death with a rather splendid representation of his famous aircraft Southern Cross on its entrance.
