Halong Bay Floating Village

Thank you so much to everyone for your good wishes and lovely comments on my Blipday- and I got my first ever Spotlight which is thrilling!

Only half an hour of wi fi so excuse my brevity; no comments from me today.

This is a house on one of the 7 floating villages in Halong Bay archipelago. The village houses about 500 people and is totally self contained with its own school, temple and nurse. Their economy is based on fishing and tourism.

Halong Bay itself is a world heritage site of more than 1600 islands, mostly uninhibited, in an area of about 1,000 sq miles. It's a landscape of unimaginable beauty shrouded in mist during our stay, lending the whole area a quiet and ghostly calmness. We half expected to hear the siren maidens calling from the nearby rocks.

Off now on an overnight train to Hue.
