Quite a packed day all told. Out on the bike first thing again, heading for a record of bike rides on Scottish islands holidays - this has probably got more to do with Mel's broken leg than anything else. Normally we'd have days sorted with walks lasting most of the day and means up and sorting lunch and so on with not much time left for two-wheeled exploring. But the mornings are 'slower' affairs on this trip, so heading out and getting back for 9 is perfectly achievable. Hence the morning ride to a nearby 'shore' which provided a perfect surfers' beach and an allegedly '4x4s only' track. Hah! I mock your track with my CX bike!
Home shower breakfast. Out to Callanish III (the main Callanish site has 14 outlying stone circles), then a trip across the moors for a revisit of Carloway Broch. The best thing about being here out of season? Closed visitor centres meaning it's free to visit, and there's no-one else there...
Not finished here we did the Bhaltos (Valtos) loop, stopped for a long (and painful for Mel) walk along the stunning Reef Beach (again with only ourselves for company) spotting some great wildlife along the way (including Slavonian Grebes; Razorbills that seemed to be playing in the surf; and Long Tailed Ducks), then popped along the road to the very weird feeling Aird Uig. A true 'end of the world' feel without a doubt.
And was that it? Pah. Time yet for a walk on Uig beach then some homemade chilli and the dough made for potato scones in the morning.
Maybe it's the sunny weather; maybe it's knowing I find out about the job situation tomorrow... But we're making the most of all of this at the moment...
