Sun dog

Just as I was going out at around 7 pm, having not taken any photos all day, I grabbed my only one of the day when I saw this effect to the left of the sun. Since becoming interested in photography I have seen sun-dogs on several occasions, having rarely noticed them before. They are like patches of mini rainbows in the sky, on the same level as the sun at a certain distance either to the left or right - occasionally both . They are related to the cloud formations.
