Take that...and that...

This evening I attended a self defence class for women. I really had to motivate myself to go as it didn't start until 8pm and I really wasn't in the mood after a day at work etc. However I managed to drag myself there only to find that it wasn't quite what I was expecting.

The instructor rambled on for a while managing to unnecessarily scare a number of people. He claimed that you should always have your hands free, should always carry some form of weapon with you and always be on the look out for escape routes.

Unfortunately I couldn't hold my tongue, and explained that that really wasn't very practical as most of us usually have a child clinging to us, a change bag or hand bag to carry and in my case a camera! I understand that it's important to always be aware of your surroundings and stay alert but I feel he went a bit far with some of his comments - including where you can buy spear heads to carry with you!

Some of the practical moves that he showed us were good, but I' not sure that I could perform them in a real life situation. The session was supposed to end at 10pm and at 10.25pm he was still rambling on so I had to make my excuses as I was ridiculously tired and I had the furthest to travel. I have no idea how long it went on until but I hope those poor ladies got home and slept safely last night!
