Staffroom silliness
The morning started with much mirth and merriment, largely at the expense of a colleague who had spent rather too much time on the sunbed at Tanfastic yesterday evening and was glowing like a beacon this morning. Poor thing - everytime someone came into the staffroom they looked at him, then looked again - their reactions then caused the rest of us to roll about in laughter. He took it like a man...we don't know if he was embarassed because he was already redder than a red thing!
Then there was Peter, whose childlike excitement at finding not just one, but TWO packets of chocolate raisins for sale in the charity sweet box, caused further silliness. I asked him to hold this pose whilst I left the room to grab my camera from the office. Expecting that he wouldn't have done, I was more than a little surprised to find him still stood waiting for his picture to be taken with two packets of chocolate raisins acting as man-boobs. Silly Peter. I told him he would be blipped. He told me it was fine as he had no morals. I think he meant he had no shame.
The day went downhill from there sadly, with waves and waves of quite intense pain getting me at different points. I must have looked rough because even my senior students this afternoon actually stopped to ask me if I was OK, with genuine concern.
Came home and went straight to bed. Got up again about 8pm, finding that pain also stops me from sleeping and is causing me to have 'restless legs' which means that I really can't stop fidgeting. Feels horrible.
I have been persuaded, by two separate friends, to ring the hospital to see if I can get a cancellation in order to speed this up a bit. Am now off to update my pain diary for the last week before trying to calm myself down on the sofa with my boys.
Thanks for congratulatory comments for James last night. Have passed them on :-)
A weekend off, with the intention of blasting through my work Monday to Thursday next week, so that hopefully, week 2 of the holiday can mean rest. With our anniversary on Tuesday and James' birthday next Saturday, I would like to be able to spend some quality time with my husband and my boy!
