Spades and Ladders
Feeling a bit beleaguered today, with a few bruised ribs as a momento from last nights events.(see back Blip) Under the circumstances, this pic is courtesy of hubby, so my input was to work on it a little on his return. Hope that is permissible. He was taken by the Goliath sized spade. My immediate thought was the title.Snakes and Ladders take you up and down the game board, so why not call this' Spades and Ladders.'
I counted thirty eight rungs on this extending ladder. It immediately made me think that we are now in our thirty eighth year of marriage and still going strong. In ladder terms, that would mean we would have to purchase the longest ladder ever made, to account for the number of years we are planning to be together. Maybe I am on that stairway to heaven after all. The ladder of life is indeed full of splinters though, and I guess, yesterdays events were a tiny skelf in the scheme of things.
Donny Osmond once said: "If you're climbing the ladder of life, you go rung by rung, one step at a time. Don't look too far up, set your goals high but take one step at a time. Sometimes you don't think you're progressing until you step back and see how high you've really gone. "
Hubby and I have come a long way when we look back. ( we met some 44 years ago)
On the other hand, the spade is a wonderful implement for achieving success but the trick is not to dig yourself into a hole, especially with one this size!! The only job where you start at the top is digging a hole. The trick is to stop delving at the right time. It is however, a useful tool for digging deep, to create a strong foundation and that is what we have tried to achieve but not without our share of trials. So, onwards and upwards!
Our marriage is like a tree that grows
Still stronger through the years
Nourished by our laughter
And sometimes by our tears.
It shelters and protects us
From a dark or sunny sky
And like a tree - it's beauty grows
As each day passes by.
Apologies for the lack of comments.Hope to be back to normal tomorrow. Thanks for being there Bill.
