Lunch anyone?
Bit of a hassled day. Went to visit my elderly uncles in Oxford. They are sweet, awkward and grumpy in equal measure.
The (eventual) arrangement was that I was going to pop by to visit Eddie, who said he didn't feel up to going out for lunch, for a cup of tea around 2pm. Then I was going to pop round to see his brother George, who lives about 20 mins away at around 4 o'clock.
So I grabbed a service station sandwich on the drive to Oxfordshire, got to Eddie's about 2.15pm, only for him to serve me a full lunch. Pie, sprouts and potatoes, apple pie and cream. So, two lunches so far.
Then he announces that he's coming to see George too and that we're going at 3pm, not 4. So we drive over, to find that George's wife Betty has also laid on lunch. Spam, corned beef, potatoes, swiss roll. Lunch number three! Betty is then annoyed that Eddie has already fed me. Meanwhile Eddie is telling George that he'd been up since 6.30am getting my lunch ready and that it was overcooked because I'd arrived so late. What can I say??!!
Both uncles are in their 80s and still very independent. They've had amazing lives and I love seeing them. Here they are with Betty in George's garden.
