Summer - day 3
Another glorious day. Lunch on a balcony, trying to get a tan. It was a day of two halves, as John would say. Quite good in the morning and then pretty frustrating in the afternoon with loads of sighing and herrumphing.
I had a VS meeting at Norton Park, so set off in my 'clogs that make my feet sore'. The gorse made Arthur's Seat yellow against the blue sky and I could see the people on the top. Isn't it glorious. Who'd believe it's only 27 March - and nobody said (yet) 'we'll pay for it'.
I couldn't get into Norton Park (it transpired later that you have to go round to the car park entrance after hours. Not having a car I had no idea where this was.) So after half an hour I slightly hobbled away for a #35.
That meant I got to cross the Meadows when it was still in full swing . Alex blipped the same scene yesterday. (Turns out it was his block that had the emergency and was my yesterday's blip). But photos can't convey the sound and smells of the Meadows, heaving with students. You can hear the chatter even as you start down Middle Meadow Walk and by the time you get to the grassy area it's risen to a crescendo: guitars, gentle drumming, the shouts of footballers and frisbee-ists. The number had certainly increased today, as had the number of BBQs. There was a pall of smoke over the whole place and it looked more like a music festival than the middle of Edinburgh in early spring.
I met in with K on the way home and we shared our amazement at the sight and regret for the amount if mess that is being left behind.
Got home to find the students in #88 were having their own BBQ using the sycamore stump as a BBQ rest and standing around in our green/my garden. I resisted the urge to play 'grumpy old woman' and go down and tell them to mind my plants. I hope they did.
