Medic
Hundreds of crew members work on a crane barge like the Hermod. It is a complete community. With a number of crew members that high it is obvious that there is a bigger chance for medical assistance needed than on a small ship like ours. The Hermod has its own medic, complete with all the equipment. Actually, it is a small hospital. Yesterday, our Chinese cook Foo came to see me with a swollen thumb. There was no question about it that it was infected. We also have our own hospital on board, but of course not all the expertise the medic of the Hermod has. Therefore our cook was 'crew basket transferred' to the Hermod this morning to see the doctor. He was operated instantly, it appeared to be whitlow, and came back with a big smile on his face. Thanks to Hans, the medic, we have our cook back. Because a good cook is worth millions on board a ship.
