Panorama of Carr Vale reserve and Bolsover
The lake is the southernmost in the reserve, more in the open than the others, and is called Meadow Flash. A flash is a lake caused by industrial activity - there were coal mines nearby and the reserve was only established in 1992. It is already regarded as being among the top five birdwatching sites in Derbyshire. It is a good place to have on the doorstep - less than 15 minutes walk from here to our house.
