Sue Foll's picture of the day

White Garden, Sissinghurst, Kent

I'm here to photograph Adam Nicholson in his childhood home, Sissinghurst Castle for 'Bricks&Mortar'. I'd love to show you the portrait I took of him with his dog Treacle, but the publication date is a long way off yet.

I had an hour and a half with Adam, shared with a film-maker, taking pictures both inside and out. I would set up my lights in one room as mark filmed him in another, or outside.

The weather was terrible so I appreciated being called outside when the sun temporarily and briefly broke through the clouds.

After my portrait opportunity had passed I stayed on in the gardens to photograph details and buildings. It was raining very hard for most of the two hours I remained, so try to imagine me in blue Berghaus, with umbrella and dishtowel over my camera and flash to absorb the raindrops.

This picture was taken when the rain paused and the sun briefly caught the wet paving stones. I could image the idyllic childhood Adam had, running between the flower beds on this beautiful estate.
