For years antique cannon rested outside The Fort, now they've been taken away. With the windows boarded-up and sealed-off and waiting for the demolition teams to move in, it's an end of an era for these blocks of flats - steeped as they are in local history, and also not without a certain measure of notoriety.

The only remnant of all the stories and all the lives lived within those high, listed walls is a statement of defiance, spray-painted upon the stark enclosing sheets of cold and impersonal aluminium.
