A Pavement Detail
I've been doing a few 1-1 classes at the moment for my old school here and this week I stopped the evening classes I was giving at the swish advertising agency. Yay!! It wasn't the students, but more the thought of starting at 7pm! I've kept one morning class though with L, who's a full- time mother and considering sending her son to an English speaking school. He's just 3, but already goes to an English speaking nursery and is really happy there. Anyway, the 90 mins go by quickly, with recycling of language from the previous class and I either take along an article for us to read and discuss or a short video clip to work with. She's keen to learn and motivated. Everything's related to bilingualism or education or children learning languages at the moment as she and her husband will soon be having interviews at prospective schools and she wants to feel more comfortable in English. They'll then have to make a choice, which will either set their son on the path of an American education or a British one and all the options that will give him for the future. They're of course amongst the privileged who have a choice. The class is in her house, about a 40 min walk away, so I take the hotel van service there if it's free and then walk back when I don't have to worry about arriving on time. This blip is a pavement detail on my walk 'home'.
