A Suffolk Eye

By CroPage

Through a glass darkly

A man who looks on glass
On it may rest his eye
Or if he pleases through it pass
And there the heavens espy..

This is one of the stained glass windows in Corpus Christi chapel, windows that are several hundred years older than the chapel because they were pinched by the architect from the Low Countries to add to the general effect (very much like the windows in the ghost story The Treasure of Abbot Thomas.)

I sat opposite this particular window throughout the professor's very lovely funeral, wondering occasionally who the woman in red (velvet, I feel) in the bottom right might be and why she should look so grumpy and dyspeptic
