world in a grain of sand

old and new

A friend invited me for a walk followed by her homemade leek and potato soup, both major ingredients homegrown. How could I refuse, other than feelings of deep inadequacy?
So, we walked to the nearby Roman villa, and while we were resting enjoying the view, this helicopter flew over, making a contrast with the remnants of the ancient stone walls.
The villa is near to Akeman Street, an important Roman Road, and down by the river you can see the terracing the Romans made. There was once another villa, closer to the river, but in the 18th century it was ploughed into the soil. All that remains is an embroidery representing one of the mosaic floors. you can see it in the county museum in Woodstock.

for those who are interested there is a back blip for yesterday
