Travels with Alfie

The Circuit

Working at home today but managed to squeeze a quick walk in with Alfie around mid-day. The weather was a bit blah, but you have to Blip when you can. Nothing much of interest apart from this moss-tastic hedge. I know - it doesn't really rock my boat either.

The Circuit largely consists of two ancient lanes which converge on what used to be the old water-mill in the village. So quite historical really, but also a village amenity as everyone walks it for exercise (very hilly!) or it makes a handy 30 minute walk for the dogs (of which there are many). Even horse-riders and dirt-bikers like to use it.

I came home last night to find the village in uproar as the local Fat Cat has paid for half of the Circuit to be covered in tarmac as far as the back entrance to his land. This was done without consulting the village (who he probably regards as of little significance as we don't have trust funds for our children). Presumably this is so his wife doesn't get the Audi wheels dirty on the two times a year she must use the back gate. I am amazed that the Council allowed this but it appears that money talks.

So an historic, unpaved green lane is lost forever beneath inches of tarmac and another bit of the countryside begins to look more like suburbia.

Rant over. For now.

Much excitement in the household tonight as the grown-ups are off to see The Civil Wars in Bristol (the band not the re-enactment), leaving sons numbers 1 and 2 to look after themselves. Much to their disgust. I think I even heard one of them mutter about us treating the place like a hotel, but I could be mistaken.

By the way, the picture does actually look better large.
