Appointment with a Genius!
After yesterday's exertions at the gymnasium of a day with Leo, I took it easy today by spending a few hours on a bus. Relaxing to the legs, it was, but not to the eyes, as I was being transported through to Glasgow, along the litter-fest that is Scotland's Main Road, the M8 (oooh, I feel a rant coming on...).
It's nice to spend time sitting doing nothing, with the ipod on 'random' so that all sorts of oldies pop up and you're immediately transported to when you first heard it/played it to death.
Here's a few (now I AM showing my age):
Holiday (America, 1976)
Hitch-hiking from Auckland to Whangarei. The kind chap who gave us a lift was playing it and I had to buy it ASAP.
Tapestry (Carole King, 1971)
New portable tape recorder, my wee pal A and I, in the newly acquired Hillman Minx (bought in the dark, costing £40. The owner beat himself down from £45!) off on many jaunts that usually ended up breaking down somewhere and ringing said former owner to come and get us. Poor man. I still feel the occasional pangs of guilt.
Hard Day's Night (Beatles, 1964)
In the cinema with my wee brother and in those days the films were on a loop, so you could sit and watch it again without paying again. I did, and got into trouble for being late home.
JR, my Shopaholic Friend, can't understand how I can go to another city (with shops), go to my destination (in this case, a shop) have a coffee and bun (another shop) and come home. But what about all the bargains in shoe/handbag/clothes/earring shops that I might have missed??
I had a Genius Appointment (Apple's hyperbole, not mine) to find out why I can't download photos from my camera straight to my iPad. Well, he was a bit of a whizz-kid, but Genius? I'm not sure. Why is he working in a shop if he's a Genius?
Anyway, it's Good News and Bad News. Good News is that it was a faulty doo-dacky, not as I'd secretly hoped - that I have an iPad too ancient (in technology terms) to be taught new tricks. The malfunctioning doo-dacky was replaced, and now I can download.
The Bad News? I don't NEED a new iPad. :-(
