Long lenticels
In a narrow lane in Bonnyrigg.
My friend Mark was looking around and I was looking up. This tree loomed over our heads and I liked the look of the stretched out lenticels.
Lenticels are openings on the bark, stems or fruits of woody plants and they let gases transfer between the air and the tissues inside the plant. The size and shape vary from plant so that you can get horizontal lines on silver birches like this, down to little dots on the skins of apples and pears.
