Lost in Translation

"Why are the shoes here?" My Thai friend asked after a team of Americans came into our dorm. "I don't know," was the only response I had.

It would be hard to blame this on language... I would say the picture communicates pretty universally.

In Thailand, we take our shoes off before going in any home or temple, and some internet cafes, churches, and massage shops. We take also take our shoes off before entering the dorm common area. However, the doorway is not where they should be left, hence the sign.
