Are we nearly there yet?
That is probably the question on everybody's lips at the Olympic site!! There certainly seems to be an awful lot still to do despite there being much trumpetting about it all being on target.
Today saw me, several of my colleagues and most of the Year 2 children arriving at school ridiculously early to get on a coach at 7 o'clock to drive to London. We had arranged a visit to the Olympic Park and, whilst we could not actually go inside the venues, we did get to learn a lot about what has been happening.
I have to say that I am not overly enthusiastic about all the hype surrounding the London Olympics. To be honest the site doesn't look all that impressive either at the moment and as for the viewing tower........well!! At least it could have been a giant helter-skelter. What on earth is THAT all about?
However, I am prepared to admit that it was a grand day out. Despite being asked numerous times "How much longer?" or words to that effect. The average 7 year old doesn't have much concept of how long it takes to get from Norwich to London. And, of course, having got up so early they were all ready for lunch by 10 0'clock!!
As you can see, the weather was fabulous, the children got a lot out of the experience and we all arrived back safely in one piece. I'm just VERY glad I'm not having to teach them tomorrow!!!
P.S. I was very tempted to make this H is for Holympics but Pontycyclops pre-empted me and told me, in no uncertain terms, that I was not to cheat!!!
