Proud
Today seemed to have an air of normality to it. The kids slipped back into their usual moods and I felt like I was running on empty. Probably didn't help by staying up til 2am last night watching tv!
Mothers day today and the wife rocked up at midday only to tell me that she didn't fancy what the girls and I had in store for her dinner. Grrrrr. It is her day though so we settled for a roast.
I'm not a huge fan of mothers day. It makes me sad. Took the girls down to mums grave this evening and decided to explain to them about where their Granny Liz has gone and what is buried beneath the grave. They now think I am some sort of monster after explaining that when she died, we burnt her and then put the ash in a box in the ground. Evie's face was a picture but perhaps I could have explained it a little better. May just took offence at me trying to tell her that the wife is not my mummy.
Anyway, it was quite nice to be able to have these sorts of chats with the girls over my mums grave rather than me getting upset.
Elsewhere, the day was dominated by Evie's stagecoach performance in Cambridge. She had been leading up to this for a few weeks now but things started to go wrong when she could not find her kite, a prop for the main song, when they began to sing it. All the other kids were waving theirs about and Evie just stood and sang with a look that was close to tears. Personally, I could not be more proud that she held it together like some sort of professional! Considering she is six and this is exactly the type of thing she hates, I thought she was brilliant and got through it with no tears. Well done Evie.
This weekend has brought as close to the children as I have been for a while. We all had a great time and had a mutual respect for each other that has recently been lacking to a certain extent. So proud to be their dad.
Great to have wife back, albeit a little fragile. I don't think she had the best of mothers days but moving forward perhaps we should make them a bit more special for her.
A menu will be provided in future;)
