Old 'n' broken

Apparently this key looks rather spiffy compared to the car it belongs to. So company one tells me everything is perfect, but I should invest a couple of hundred for general maintenance, as it is still very good. Now, after that, company 2 says it can't do anything with it anymore, and it should be tossed with .. well, with whatever you toss away next to cars.

Well, one of them is a lying soab I guess... Now to find out which. The first is a shop that makes its money on fixing stuff -needed or not-, and the second one makes its money from selling you new cars -needed or not-. What to do...
