Lathyrus Odoratus

Colt's-foot

My early blips were all of wildflowers but I haven't found any new ones for ages. Today I came across two. First was this clump of Colt's-foot which is an odd looking flower with a thick underground rhizome and sturdy stem that is covered in overlapping scales. The flowers are a bit like Dandelion but are held erect. The leaves don't appear until the flowers have died back.

My second find was White Butterbur. Unfortunately it was on the wrong side of a fence for me to photograph with the spaniel on a lead so i'll have to return another day. The odd thing about this is that white butterbur occurs in northern England and eastern Scotland, it is quite unusual to find it anywhere else.
