FACT of social life

Today I went to Liverpool to see Folkie Booknerd - she descibes an exhibition at FACT here. The picture shows her standing in front of one of the installations within the 'Robots and Avatars' exhibition.

On reflection, I think this exhibition was a huge missed opportunity (although the ADA installation was fun...). In particular, it neglected the significance of social media and this was somehow highlighted by the photography allowed/not allowed issue. OK, you could text a robot and get it to speak and you could include your own image in some of the installations - but it was all very controlled, very static... very much on its own terms.

Meanwhile, I was checking out my Twitter tonight and followed a link to Hazel Hall's inaugural professorial lecture 'What's so social about informatics' and noted that she has included some blip images... I don't know... these ideas are linked somehow...
