Live, love, laugh

Met de vingertjes

Last workday before it is weekend again!

Today was the first time I could actually teach music class to the children and their parents. One of the teachers introduced me, before I would teach class. She made a little mistake and introduced me as being from Korea. Apparently the word for being Dutch sounds similar as the one for being Korean.
During class we did a Dutch song with a little dance. You can see in the picture the children practicing the dance. It was very easy, but it went a bit too fast I think.

I realized something during class today. While interacting with all the children, I began to realize that some children already connect curtain games with me, or have a preference for my company. Yesterday a girl actually walked to me in the morning. Took my hand and pointed to the chair across from hers, implying that I should sit near her. Today I realized that you don't need language to connect with someone. Or at least you don't need language to connect with these children, even though they have autism. An open attitude and a big smile is enough. And once you made a connection with a kid, it is easier to correct them without language as well. Because I notice that correcting the behavior of children is the hardest thing to do when you can't use any language (and when the way of disciplining the child is not clear).
It felt really good to realizes this is the way it works.

Coming home from work we bought sandwiches-like things for breakfast & lunch for the weekend. I also bought a bunch of strawberries for not even ?2,50. And we had dinner which looked and tasted a bit similar to our Dutch-Chinese 'Bami'. After this I got a call on skype. Finally I got the chance to talk to my best friend. And we made up for some lost time by talking for over one and a half hour. Apparently I missed quite a few big things..
