Dive or jump?
Today has been a day of hide and seek. Himself was totally absent. Herself spent long hours on the nest ... incubating? We carried on moving around, talking, opening doors etc so she can be used to us and not scared.
From time to time we spotted her, out and about, ducking and diving among the grass and foliage. She stopped and played 'statues' every time we became aware of her. At one time she was spotted lying flat on the table with her head behind the water bowl. No not dead just hiding from us as she was very close to the nest. Very funny really when you realise how big she is compared to the water bowl ( seen on yesterday's blip). She reminded me of children and ostriches who both hide, mainly in plain sight , thinking we cannot see them.
Late in the day I spotted her on her way back to the nest. She to-ed and fro-ed
like a secret agent and then with a final look round she flew onto the table and waddled over to the edge. She jumped onto the back of the garden chair just over the nest ... and then sensed camera lurking ..... I clicked and moved away. She finally relaxed .... and then paused seeming to think .. do I dive or jump! ...
She JUMPED!!!! ... no sound of breaking eggs ..... she settled down for the night.
I rushed to the computer to check the photos. and was amazed to find a blipable shot taken through two double glazed doors!! so here it is .
I think I might call her Matilda .....
