The Guardian of Scotland
This is a detail from the National Wallace Monument near Stirling.
Visited it today, not good for photographs as it was dull & overcast.
Wallace's sword was on display although it had a new hilt fitted in the 16th century.
For those who do not know, Wallace was a Scottish patriot who drove the English occupying army out of Scotland only to be betrayed and executed in London for treason to a foreign king to whom he had never sworn allegiance.
