I can hardly believe that a year has gone by since I stood at the graveside and lowered my mum's coffin. I went back there again today with my little girlfriend and laid some flowers.

The house has been lying empty and I have only made some half-hearted attempts at clearing 50 years of history. We have been having a more concentrated effort during my week's leave, and today, I took the various walking aids and other paraphernalia used to ease the life of the aged back to the social work distribution centre.

House clearing continues tomorrow.
