Mountain rose

Each day as I descend and climb the mountain from our home on the coast I pass more and more of these mountain shrubs in flower.

Very soon the entire mountainside will be a mass of white. The large, simple blooms have a parchment paper like texture and the leaves are sticky. Any ideas what they are?

Inland at the Cortijo we have them too - this weekend I saw them begin to flower, but the shrubs and flowers are much more compact.
