The last line of defence

On Hookney Down on Dartmoor you will find about half a dozen of these pole's, spaced around. These are the last remaining examples of what must been a virtual forest of ploes that were errected here to deter enemy gliders and paratroops landing in the event of an invasion. A last deterent you might say.

If we go on cutting the defence budget, it might be wise to source a plantation of suitable poles again!!
