Estelas en la mar

Trekking in La Tigra

These kids live near La Tigra park in Tegucigalpa. Their daddy watched our cars and sold us calla flowers (a dozen for $80c).

On my first entry, it might be wise to explain the name of my journal. It refers to a beautiful poem by Antonio Manchado and is a metaphor of life. "Estelas" are boat wakes, in Spanish. There is no path, the poet says, but wakes in the sea.
This journal will draw the path that I will never walk again. It will be sweet to turn back and see the wake that is left.

Caminante, son tus huellas el camino y nada más;
