A parcel of oystercatchers
I feel that an oystercatcher is a bird that shouldn't fly. It looks a tad comical with its short wings and heavy, long orange bill. And yet, they are one of my favourite birds. I only have to hear their call, and I relax.
With the aid of a photograph, we were able to count around 80 birds in this flock. However, we had quite a discussion about the correct collective noun. A 'parcel' is the most common, though we quite liked 'a stew' or 'a Rockerfeller' of oystercatchers!
At least, and unlike yesterday's blip, I know what this bird is!
