Today's the day ................................ to go to gladderscountry

Had an all day choir rehearsal in Arnside today which was hard work but good fun. It's always nice to go there - and it's just as beautiful as gladders' pictures make it look. Today, people were strolling along the promenade because it was quite mild - but the sky was grey and you could see the dark clouds rolling in. This is taken looking northwards back up the Kent estuary to the fells of South Lakeland ....................


PS I'm going to have to explain yesterday's blip a bit more - because I've been getting into all sorts of trouble over it?! And I suppose there's no way that you could know that Richard Monty is the name we've given to the museum mannequin at my place of work.

We got him several years ago and when he arrived, his body parts were all packed separately. I had to assemble him - and then get him dressed. So, as I said, we have no secrets from each other - I have seen him in the altogether many times.

At present, he is dressed in a costume specially made for him, based on a painting of the real Richard Monty (1842-1931) who was the last passenger guard on the S&DR, retiring in 1909 after 54 years of service. The real Monty sports a full beard in the painting, so we had to give our Monty a beard too. Before that, he was indeed a fresh-faced youth - who went by the name of Darcy.
