WhyFlowers?

Kind of serious Q here. Why do early bulbs produce flowers? ChionaDoxa (the blue / whitey ones, I think) and daffs won't be cross-pollinated by insects,surely? Why don't they just subdivide under the earth and stuff? Am I showing AGAIN what a waste of space I am, because I haven't got my head round plants propagation, etc.?
