Some Days

Do Folds

The brass band I play for is playing this piece by Derek Bourgois at a competition on Sunday. This is the only page on which you can see the white of the paper, all the others are black with semiquavers!

There are not very many bars rest which makes turning pages tricky, so I fold the corners of the music to make them easier to grab for a quick VS.

British brass bands have two euphonium players, and they would normally play off two copies of the same part with divided parts on separate staves, but Mr Bourgois decided to print first and second euphs on separate parts. This makes reading slightly easier, but the normal adjustments and compromises ("I'll play that part there if you can play that part there") become difficult. The second euphonium part for the opening is now mine and pencilled-in under the stave.

It is a great piece and if you get the chance to hear one of the top class brass bands playing it, you really should.
