Vertical Puddles

Hobbs

Jack Hobbs (later Sir Jack) was a cricketer born in Cambridge. He rose to such fame that a pavilion on the town green was named after him - this is now a Thai restaurant, but Hobbs' legacy still remains on the weathervane and a blue plaque.

The plaque claims that he was "the first professional to be knighted", but that sounds suspect to me; perhaps it was the first professional cricketer?
