Puff ball

Several of these on the fell this morning. As a child I used to love them. They start off white - like mushrooms but round and shiny - you can eat them then, but I don't think they have much taste.

When they ripen they detach and blow about freely spreading their spores out the top - it is lovely to tread on them and see the spores rise like smoke.

Marmalade came out well but too much food for party - will be eating vege chili for a week!
