Space/Spare room
2106 is a nice space/place - I'm a lucky boy.
The spare bedroom is my workspace, dumping ground, guest room. It doesn't have the view and receives little natural light, but within this cave lay the remains of ongoing or unfinished projects. Bowie, Jackson, Collins amongst other audio greats reside here, the grass roots of my LP collection which see me through.
At the back rests an unfinished rattan weaved figure based on my dimensions. It's from a time when I didn't feel all there/here - Grandad had moved on, people back home were in bits and an old flame had burnt out. Sat on the chair is a mod-roc life cast of myself which was great fun to make but it also taught me a lot (and not just about sculpture). I realised that we never really get a chance to see ourselves as others do. We look into a mirror (2D) at photos of ourselves (2D) and from the fixed angle our eyes/neck/head provides. Making this sculpture let me to come face to face with myself in three dimensions allowing me understand the space I fill. The piece remains incomplete, but somewhere upstairs a switch had been flicked.
