Life Before Mobiles

Can you remember life before mobile phones to make calls, texts, facebook, twitter and even blip all on a device that fits in the palm of your hand?

We probably don't actually talk much on our phones instead using text and social websites to communicate.

This phone box, together with some more are in Leeds City Square outside what used to be the rather grand Post Office and now a rather grand restaurant. I've used a HDR app to give a grungier effect.

A bit of info on the humble phone box: The first standard public telephone kiosk introduced by the United Kingdom Post Office was produced in concrete in 1920 and was designated K1 (Kiosk No.1). This design was not of the same family as the familiar red telephone boxes.
The red telephone box was the result of a competition in 1924 to design a kiosk that would be acceptable to the London Metropolitan Boroughs which had resisted the Post Office's effort to erect K1 kiosks on their streets. The organisers invited entries from three respected architects and, along with the designs from the Post Office and from The Birmingham Civic Society, the Fine Arts Commission judged the competition and selected the design submitted by Giles Gilbert Scott. Just wanted to say thank you for your lovely comments on the birds :)

So tired, off to sleep and catch up tomorrow. Well, it is another late blip.
