Am back in Amsterdam for a conference: there will be a lot of work going on but I do love this city and always enjoy my visits here.

As many of you will know the canals were built with the purpose of making the delivery of goods arriving at the docks to the tradesmen based in the city fairly easy. The narrow houses built along the canal all had (have) a pulley anchored at the top of the house so that goods could be brought in and stored without anyone having to negotiate stairs.

Here an Amsterdamian uses old technology to move some furniture into his new apartment home five floors up.
