Building Sn3 and N Worlds

By Stationmaster

The Long View of my RGS in Sn3

Took this photo to show the layout as it is today. All track in place, all wired. Trains run perfectly. The buildings shown are mockups. I drew the elevations from old drawings on my CAD system, then used Photoshop to apply weathering. Good stand-ins until I get a chance to build the real thing.

Next step will be to put away all of the cars and locomotives, so that I can begin scenery. Actually I need to install a track light system first, then on to the scenery. Step one will be to do a coat of thin Sculptamold. This will get rid of the blue earth. Once that is in place, I will put on a couple of light washes of burnt umber and burnt siena to tone it down.

Then finally I can print out my digital photos of Dolores' background and mount them on foam core. I plan to cut out the land forms so that there is no sky - just a rock cliff. The foam core slips into a slot I left at the rear of the three sides. As before, I know that this really transforms the layout. This is really the fun part. Besides running trains.
