front and centre
I've been getting quite familiar with the Usher Hall over the past week; every evening Festival gig father and I have been to so far has been there. What has been nice is that I now know which seats get decent sound (the acoustics are generally quite ropey in the hall in my past experience) and have been moving gradually forward gig by gig until today we were in B24 and B25 and inches from the very centre less than twelve feet from the feet of the first violinists. Very handy for today's event as besides the Budapest Festival Orchestra we got some absolutely ace Hungarian folk fiddling from József Lendvay Jr. His dad was also present and though not unskilled his decision to send his son for classical music tuition on top of passing along traditional Gypsy-style fiddlery was very much the right one. Jr also has the distinct advantage of rather closely resembling (at least with his current hairstyle) popular Island-based television drama star Jorge Garcia which lends him an additional coolness on top of that due to his mastery of the violin. Absolutely worth seeing if it turns out to be a touring performance.
