Windermere

Today's the day ......................... to be a tourist

Having lived in the Lake District for the past twenty years, Bowness-on-Windermere is not somewhere I go very much. That's because it's the main place that tourists head for when they come here - and of course, I don't consider myself a tourist!

But I found myself there today - and, although there were indeed lots of people about - it was such a lovely, breezy day, that I managed to enjoy it. The lake itself is always beautiful and today you could see right to its most northerly tip.

For many years, power-boating and water-skiing were popular activities on the lake - but from 2005, a controversial speed limit of 10 knots for all powered craft was introduced by the Lake District National Park Authority. Many opponents of this legislation predicted that it would cause a rapid fall in the number of tourists that would come to Windermere.

It seems to have weathered the storm though ........................
