Photo 45 #366photos: Shophouses

28 February 2012

Bugis Street, Singapore

I had the morning off to get over my jetlag. So before my afternoon meetings, I went for a little stroll around my hotel. I came across these really nice pastel coloured staircases at the back of the shophouses.

Shophouses are to be found around southeast Asia and consist of two or three-storey row buildings, typically with commercial space on the ground floor and residences above. The front of the shops consist of a verandah which acts as a continuous walkway on each side of the street, providing shelter and shade.
