How much damage can a fire really do?

I was watching this house on fire this afternoon and couldn't help but feel a wave of emotions.

What if your house burns down, what do you lose? Do we realise what we have within our homes, things that are too precious to lose?

It all comes to to memories. Everything we own has a memory behind it and even when we have nothing physical to show, we always have our memories.
But how do you compensate for losing everything thats important to you all at once?

Everything gone.....
